Sabe que, às vezes, olho para o que já fiz e, estranhamente, me espanto com as maluquices. É uma sensação boa, que me move a estimular outras pessoas a algo parecido: a sensação de se surpreender consigo mesmas, com a força do querer próprio, que é vital e íntimo. Fazer uma vida que sobra do que ainda sobra da vida.
Há pouco tempo, percebi que faço arte porque, na verdade, amo viver. Outros caminhos poderiam levar à morte em vida e, talvez, à morte concreta. Amo as ideias próprias. Falo e faço o que penso. Alcanço imagens apaixonantes. Supero a mim mesmo – os trabalhos confrontam sempre o limite do que sei. Na verdade, são excedentes vitais. Alguns, tortuosos e obsessivos, levam ao emagrecimento físico; outros, conduzidos pelo prazer de seu aparecimento material. Não precisariam ser feitos. Ninguém obriga a fazê-los. É uma vida tão vida que sobra.

Declaration of a Living Animal Like Me

You know, sometimes I look at what I have already done and, strangely, I am amazed by the craziness. It is a good feeling, one that moves me to encourage other people toward something similar: the feeling of being surprised by themselves, by the strength of their own desire, which is vital and intimate. To make a life that spills over from what still remains of life.
Not long ago, I realized that I make art because, in truth, I love being alive. Other paths could lead to a living death and, perhaps, to actual death. I love my own ideas. I say and do what I think. I reach compelling images. I surpass myself – the works always confront the limits of what I know. In truth, they are vital excesses. Some, tortuous and obsessive, lead to physical weight loss; others are driven by the pleasure of their material emergence. They would not need to be made. No one forces me to make them. It is a life so alive that it spills over.
